This workbook is designed for use in an ongoing tobacco cessation group conducted by facilitators. Ideally, the facilitators will be trained professionals. Each participant must have a copy of the workbook with the CDs furnished in the back of the book. Photocopies are prohibited by law. The program is designed to assist participants in understanding the effects of tobacco use, examine and enhance their motivation to quit using tobacco, choose an appropriate, individualized method to stop, formulate a detailed plan, and put the plan into action. There are 8 sessions in the program with the final session addressing relapse prevention. The sessions are designed for weekly group sessions with each session lasting 1.5 hours. The groups are ideally open-ended, meaning that participants can enter the group at any time, proceed at their own individualized pace, and finish the program in accordance with their chosen method. Each session has homework that participants should complete prior to each group meeting. In group, participants share their homework with the entire group. Those conducting the groups should refer to the Dying For A Smoke Facilitator’s Guide for instructions and hints.
